Kay Gresswell and Anthony Huxley's classic Standard Encyclopedia of the World's Rivers and Lakes (LJ 5/1/66; o.p.), this is nevertheless more in-depth than the Rand McNally Encyclopedia of World Rivers, which is more of a picture book. Each entry begins with information on the source of the river, its length, and its major tributaries, followed by a discussion of the physical, economical, historical, political, and environmental character of each river. Maps of each continent and its major rivers introduce the work, and a number of black-and-white photographs accompany the text; a useful glossary of river terms and an extensive bibliography are also included. Soundly recommended as a complementary volume for libraries that have strong geography collections. From Library Journal P

I was hoping for classier looks, things with braids, different parting techniques, etc.Maybe my expectations were too high, but if you use a word like "comprehensive," you set them high as an author. There are also numerous grammatical errors.The author would benefit from a better editor and some good proof readers to help polish his work so that the writing style doesn't interfere with the story.. Fascinating story. Why do we humans have our great intelligence? Because we're schemers and deceivers. Few would disagree that the words of Ivan Karamazov present the problem of evil as well as anyone before or since. Highly recommended.. I definitely could have completed the course without the help of this textbook. Securing this book is wise business investment. My only complaint with the book is the way the side-bar notes are handled. His approach is simple, yet powerful, and involves the use of several Chinese herbal combinations to treat Lyme and co-infections.Some of the book is devoted to discussion of the pharmacological properties of the herbs, which I feel is less useful to the layperson and perhaps more useful to a physician or biochemist. And I was hoping that it would be as good as it sounded it would be. I got what I bargained for. That it was an acquih
