I love Sargent's backgrounds to his portraits, and on so many of the images, it's just flat black (his tonal depth is lost). Unfortunately, the fonts, layouts, and poor editing make this book painful to read. I had to re-read several sections very slowly to "get it" it was a new way of thinking and I'm not sure if it was the author or my mind patterns that made it a bit hard to read.
