Though not written for the pictures, the editors did an excellent job associating snippets of Villiers' writing with his photos. The exposition of complex systems are described using appropriate, and facile metaphors. Therefore, he had a problem. Replete with all the suspense and intrigue found in the best spy novels of Ian Fleming and John Le Carre, Jeffrey A. My son (5) loves boats and enjoys this book.. He starts his introduction, "For a long time, I considered myself an expert on waves," but then he describes going out deliberately to meet a wave breaking on an underwater shoal in the open ocean, and finding that whatever his expertise, it avails him nothing. My favorite scene was the one with Holly and her Mother, and the honestbond that they share. I felt this contained little of use and left me with the impression it was an advert for the bigger, better, proper version of the book.. He discusses some of the celebrated naturalists and advocates of trees: John Bartram, André Michaux, John Chapman (aka Johnny Appleseed), and - a mild surprise - George Washington (whom he dubs "the Founding Gardener"). Most wonderful and funny story. To be sure, some of these ideas have been suggested elsewhere but what is different here is the author's tight integration of their theory with workable solutions.
