But for the most part this is a gorgeous book, indispensible for those of us still caught up in Sargentolatry, and just whets the appetite for the next volume.. The tale it tells. . Indeed, the only reason he wants a career at all is so that he can have a line to impress women with (and since "Hi, nice to meet you, I'm an astronaut" isn't in the cards he'll just have to fall back on television). The "wave" forces the world to ask itself many common, yet perilous questions: How do we deal with people who are different from ourselves? How do we embrace our own uniqueness? Anyone can relate to this story. He starts his introduction, "For a long time, I considered myself an expert on waves," but then he describes going out deliberately to meet a wave breaking on an underwater shoal in the open ocean, and finding that whatever his expertise, it avails him nothing. Brostoff highly recommends it. This is one of the few novels that will capture every reader's imagination and leave them--like us--begging for more.Recommended Age: 16 and up.Language: Yep. Often a work not detailed in this book (the first of a four-volume catalogue raisonnee) is referred to for comparison, but is not illustrated, or is shown in a postage-stamp size picture (example: a lot is told about the models for Carnation Lily Lily Rose, but the repro itself is about 1" square, and impossible to see in detail.
