Not all images are like this. Still they worked, and like the airplanes themselves, advanced the state of t he art.I wish I could rate this book more highly, but missing illustrations and lousy (no?) proofreading pull it way down.. A lot has been written about the original Wright flyers, but relatively little about the engines that powered. The resulting engines were marvels of mechanical ingenuity combined with some really dumb design decisions. My husband told me about it. The selections give the reader a valuable insight into TR's nature writings and policy positions. This one presents TR as he presented himself to the public.. This book is an essential part of any study of TR. There are many of the images that are so dark that there is no definition in the shadows. in short, its crap.. Wonderful to be able to buy a reprint of this classic tale - my original copy from the 1950's is battered and bruised great value for the money.. I have say, as excited as I was to get this bookI was let down. Other writers give their impressions of TR. I love Sargent's backgrounds to his portraits, and on so many of the images, it's just flat black (his tonal depth is lost). O
